cataract care
Cataracts occur when the lenses in your eyes become cloudy or opaque. The lens focuses light rays on the retina to produce crisp vision. As cataracts develop, light is scattered and the lens can no longer focus properly, which causes vision problems.
Most cataracts are due to age-related changes in the lens of the eye. Other factors that can contribute to cataract development may include trauma, eye surgery, diabetes, medication, and genetics. Wearing sunglasses outdoors can slow down cataract formation by protecting the eyes from damaging UV rays.

Our doctors are trained to diagnose and track the development of cataracts. When cataracts affect the safety and/or negatively impacts a person’s daily activities, surgery is often recommended. Cataract surgery is performed by removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial or intraocular lens (IOL). Intraocular lens implants come in single vision, astigmatism, and bifocals options; there may be options to improve your vision better than prior to cataract surgery. Talk to our doctors about these options today.
