Family Eye & Vision Care for the Santa Clara & San Jose, CA Communities

Even as an established family eye care facility, our optometrists are constantly expanding their education and knowledge of different vision care procedures, conditions, and treatments. New eye health studies are started and completed daily, allowing our office to expand upon different services offered to our Santa Clara and San Jose, CA patients. We are consistently learning about common eye troubles such as digital eye strain, red eyes, computer vision syndrome, and dry eye treatments so we can better serve each individual who walks through our doors.

Children Eye Care

In today’s world, children grow up staring at their phones, tablets and computers; it’s all a part of their lives. The introduction and use of electronics starts by age 1, and the number of books used is reduced and replaced by these digital devices. Proper ergonomics of the use of technology and the necessity to take breaks isn’t being taught by teachers, parents, or society.

  • The 20-20-20 rule

Remember to help your children practice the 20-20-20 rule: For every 20 minutes in front of the screen, take 20 seconds and focus on an object 20 feet away

  • Children eye care tips

    ● Children need to be reminded to view their screens at a proper distance, take time away from their screens, and to remember to get up and go outside and play or exercise. ● Enjoying the outside, natural sunlight, and looking at objects at a distance is healthy for their eyes. ● Also, they need to get enough sleep so they can rest their eyes. Parents now have to be more vigilant and pay more attention.

  • Eye exams for children

Eye exams for children are a necessity. Parents need to pay attention to how long their children are on the computer or a cell phone, how closely they watch the screen, and recognize the signs of dry eyes. The symptoms of dry eyes increase at an earlier age due to the introduction and excessive use of phones, video games, tablets, laptops, and TVs. If they start complaining about their eyes or look like they’re straining to view screens, call 20/20 Dry Eye Spa.

Young Adults Eye Care

Teens use their computers for homework, are on their phones for hours at a time, spending time gaming after school and on the weekends, and socializing daily online. This is how they have learned to communicate with the world. They spend most of their waking hours looking at screens. Homework is often completed online, too. What parents need to realize is that this affects their eyes. As a result of so many hours spent staring at screens, teens and young adults have developed dry eyes.

  • Eye conditions caused by prolonged screen usage

People who use digital devices suffer more from meibomian gland dysfunction or MGD (which is a deficiency in the oil layer) than others. Dry eye occurs when the eyes don’t produce enough tears or when there is an imbalance in the tears. Eyes need to be kept moisturized, comfortable, and healthy. If managed properly, they can be symptom free; however, people who are on digital devices all day tend to be more susceptible to dry eyes. Fortunately, at 20/20 Dry Eye Spa, we can treat teens and young adults, so schedule an appointment for an evaluation and to set up a treatment plan.

  • Young adults eye care tips

    ● Remind them to take frequent breaks, use the 20-20-20 rule, and to practice proper ergonomics when using technology. ● Since they will never cut down on their screen time, making sure they get up and away from their screens is important. ● Don’t forget they also need sleep! They can rest their eyes and their minds. ● Recognize the symptoms, address the condition and seek treatment.

Athletes Eye Care

Stop Suffering and Train Better.Whether you are a serious competitor or just a weekend warrior, seeing better is vital. A long day exposed to the elements, such as wind, sun, or dust can leave you with burning, sore, itchy, or scratchy eyes or even reduce your ability to wear contacts.
Increased time outdoors or sweat can block up oil gland pores and contribute to dry eyes. Be more comfortable with outdoor exercise when you treat your dry eyes. Be seen, get evaluated, start treatment and maintain your eyes. Improve your performance.

  • Common symptoms with indoor or outdoor activities

    ● Watery eyes - common with cycling, running, skating, ice hockey, and skiing.● Sensitivity to sunlight – any outdoor activity.● Burning – running, cycling, activities that causes lots of sweat.● Itchy eyes – tennis, soccer, baseball, or sports around lots of grass or trees.
