What are you doing for your immune system??? At this point, it would almost be impossible if you have not heard about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the news. Being informed is important. However, fear and panic can cause stress, which can reduce your immunity to allergies, colds, and viruses, including Coronavirus. Practicing good hygiene is still essential for the prevention of exposure to viruses.
Work within the limits that you CAN control vs. what you cannot control in the environment. Keeping your body as healthy as possible allows your immune system to be able to combat any colds or flu.
Ways to boost your immune system:
Sleep : 8 hours of sleep is ideal. Your body performs its own maintenance, repair, and restoration during this time. Research shows that low quantity of sleep can reduce your immunity.
Eat healthy foods: Choose high nutrient foods with minimal toxins. Limit or avoid eating a high concentration of processed and refined foods, sugar, refined grains, and industrial vegetable oils which can weaken your immune system. Foods such as garlic and ginger can aid and help support your immune system.
Vitamin D : Sunshine or vitamin D supplements has shown to decrease your illness rate.
Add vitamins/ mineral supplements : Take a high-quality multi-vitamin daily along with vitamin C, omega 3 fish oils, digestive enzymes, and elderberry. Probiotics can reduce inflammation and support your gut health and immunity as well.
Drink water: Water cleanses and hydrates the body, which further improves immunity by helping remove toxins out of the body vs. alcohol (dehydrates the body) that weakens the immune system. Commit to drinking at least 8 glasses of water/ day.
Exercise:
Make time to get low/moderate exercise 20-30 min daily. Walking daily can improve immunity. Movement promotes circulation and production of more white blood cells, which are the cells that help fight against the germs we encounter daily.
Taking care of yourself and getting the rest you need is one of the best therapeutic treatments that you can do within your control to stay healthy. This is what I have been doing for years and it works!
